Dynon ADAHRS (First) for Skyview EFIS System Overviews

ADAHRS stands for Air Data/Attitude/Heading Reference System. The SkyView ADAHRS module uses MEMS sensor technology to accurately measure inertial, magnetic, and air data. These provide the data necessary to drive the Artificial Horizon/Synthetic Vision, Airspeed, Altitude, Vertical Speed, Slip, Turn Rate, Angle of Attack, and Gyro-Stabilized Heading. Additionally, Outside Air Temperature is obtained from the SV-OAT-340 Sensor which is connected to the ADHARS.

You may have one, two, or more ADAHRS in your SkyView System. If one fails, the backup ADHARS will provide data to the SkyView Display(s). To maintain complete redundancy, a separate SV-OAT-340 Sensor should be connected to each ADAHRS. Note that functionally, the SV-ADAHRS-200 and the SV-ADAHRS-201 are the same. The only difference is that the SV-ADAHRS-201 requires an SV-ADAHRS-200 in the same system in order to be activated. In the event that the SV-ADAHRS-200 is removed from the system, the SV-ADAHRS-201 will remain activated for an additional 30 flight hours before it becomes deactivated.

A SkyView Network Cable is used to connect an ADAHRS Module to a Display. One ADAHRS will provide data to as many Displays as are connected in the SkyView System. However, for redundancy, you may want to provide one ADAHRS for each Display.

Each ADAHRS contains:
3 – Pneumatic ports for Pitot, Static, and Angle of Attack
1 – SV-OAT-340 Outside Air Temperature Sensor
1 – 9-Pin DIN Connector for the SkyView Network
2 – 2-Pin Connector for SV-OAT-340 Sensor

The ADAHRS internal sensors measure rotational motion and acceleration about the CG of the aircraft. In order to be maintain accuracy, the ADAHRS should be mounted within six feet laterally (side-to-side) and twelve feet longitudinally (front-to-back) of the aircraft CG. Quite often the best place to mount the ADAHRS is in the fuselage behind the cockpit area. But other locations can work.

Dynon ENGINE MONITORING MODULE for Skyview EFIS System Overviews

The SV-EMS-220 Module provides the interface between a SkyView Display and the engine and aircraft sensors. It allows the SkyView System to continuously monitor all power plant and aircraft systems in a highly automated manner. The EMS Module integrates up to 16 different types of gauges all in one highly compact design. Any parameter falling outside its predefined limits are automatically brought to the attention of the pilot for immediate remediation. Safety is enhanced two fold; first, by reducing the pilot’s workload and secondly by early detection and notification of foreseen trouble.

Flexibility
SkyView is highly configurable for you to design the exact Engine Monitoring display you want. Common engine configurations come standard, but an easy to use setup menu allows you to choose exactly which sensors, displays, ranges and alarms you want.

Mounting
The SV-EMS-220 should be mounted in the avionics bay near the firewall. NOTE: it cannot be mounted on the engine side of the firewall.

Connections
The SV-EMS-220 has two connectors, a D37 and a D25. The D37 contains dedicated RPM, Voltage, Fuel Flow, Current, MAP, and general purpose inputs. The D25 has twelve temperature inputs. The EMS Module is connected to a SkyView Display via a D9 connector.

Engine Sensor Kits
The SV-EMS-220 can use the Dynon Engine Sensor Kits for the 4 and 6 cylinder Lycoming, Continental, Jabiru, and Rotax engines. The Wiring Harnesses supplied with these kits fit the SV-EMS-220 connectors. Other engines are supported, although the installer will have to determine the correct sensors and wiring to connect to the EMS Module.

Dynon AOA/Pitot L-Shape (Unheated) Angle-of-attack/Pitot Probe Overviews

As most GA aircraft do not provide a way to directly measure this critical flight parameter, angle of attack usually becomes an academic notion which is not thought about while flying. Dynon Avionics was the first EFIS manufacturer to realize the importance of angle of attack and offer an affordable, accurate, and useful way to monitor it.

Dynon Avionics’ AOA/Pitot Probe
Dynon Avionics was the first manufacturer of affordable EFIS products to offer a way to measure angle of attack. Through extensive wind tunnel testing, Dynon is able to offer an angle of attack (AOA) pitot probe that measures both angle of attack and airspeed when connected to any of our EFIS-based products.

Principle of Operation
The concept behind Dynon’s design is illustrated in the diagrams at right. The Dynon Avionics AOA/Pitot probe performs two functions: airspeed sensing and angle of attack sensing. These functions require having two pressure ports on the tip of the probe. The normal pitot pressure port is on the front face of the probe and is designed to be insensitive to angle of attack. The second pressure port is located on an angled surface just under the pitot port and is designed to be very sensitive to AOA. The pressure from each port is delivered via separate air lines to the instrument where they are compared to previously calibrated scenarios specific to that aircraft.

Easy Installation and Calibration
Unlike other angle of attack instruments available to homebuilders, the Dynon AOA/Pitot probe does not require you to drill special ports in wing skins. It also does not have any moving parts such as vanes. It is simply an AN5812-style pitot tube with an additional pressure port to measure AOA. Simply use it as a normal pitot tube. The only difference is a second plumbing line which runs back to the instrument for AOA calculation.

Dynon GPS 5Hz RECEIVER MODULE for Skyview EFIS System Overviews

The SV-GPS-250 is a sensitive, WAAS enabled GPS receiver and antenna. The advantage of having the receiver a packaged in one unit with the antenna, is that the output is a standard NMEA serial connection. A shielded antenna cable, with its inherent attenuation of signal and greater difficulty of routing, in not required to connect to the SkyView Display.

GPS latitude/longitude data is necessary for the SkyView to locate its position to display Synthetic Vision and the Moving Map. It is also necessary during calibration of the Remote Compass/Magnetometer, in order for SkyView to determine current location and the correct magnetic inclination.

An SV-GPS-250 is not necessary for the SkyView System, since and NMEA standard GPS input can be utilized from a third party GPS receiver. A major advantage of the SV-GPS-250 is that it derives its power from a SkyView Display Backup Battery. So in the event of loss of ship’s power the GPS will continue to be powered. Another advantage is the SV-GPS-250 is designed to be used with SkyView, and no setup is required.

Each SV-GPS-250 contains four leads to attach to the SkyView Main Harness, including RX, TX, 8V, and Ground.
