- Excellent IPOD/Iphone interface! It works perfectly with my Iphone 4.
- Great DVD playback.
- FAST GPS signal acquisition and location. Literally found my location within 10 seconds of being powered up the first time!
- Bluetooth hands-free works flawlessly.
- Automatically Syncs bluetooth contacts, displays who is calling, and allows you to hide call information while talking.
- XM radio interface is nice.
- Great quality fit and finish.
- Bluetooth audio streaming works well.
- Ipod video plays fine.
- The Mute Wire/Parking Brake bypass (search on youtube for 'avic-x920bt bypass') works flawlessly.

Cons:

- Difficult installation. I was unable to locate the reverse lights wire in my KIA. I'm not sure how this will effect the GPS accuracy. Requires a splice connection to speed sensor.
- Supplied metal plate for dash mounting the GPS antenna did not stick to my dash. I used AR glue and accelerator (superglue) to stick it to my dash.
- The aspect ratio of Ipod video seems unnatural when played on the unit. Ipod videos appear stretched. (It doesn't handle widescreen very well)

I'll likely update this review as I get more experience with the voice-command feature and GPS navigation. So far though, I couldn't be happier with the unit. Much better than the Eclipse AVN-62D it replaced. Part of that was due to the crappy job Car-Toys did installing the Eclipse, though (when I removed it, I found several incorrect connections -- no wonder the GPS never worked!).

It took me 10 hours or so to install everything; but it's clean, and I know it's done correctly.

I purchased this unit 9/12/10. I installed the unit myself…

I installed this unit into a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer…I had factory installed radio w/ Siruis, Rear video, on the column volume,channel change controls. You will not be able to use any of these factory assesories when you replace with this unit.

You must purchase the steering column module,A module to watch movies in the back seats, a special wire to listen to your Ipod,If you want the rear camera, thats extra, A module for siruis radio is extra.

I was lucky enough to find the unit on sale for 8.15 and with a 0.00 rebate it came to a total of 8.15. I have seen pricing for this unit from 0.00 to 8.15.

Do your home work on pricing before you buy…Amazon.com is a good place to start.

You will get an instruction CD with the unit…I downloaded the Cd and printed out the directions..It yielded over 200 pages…You must read these instructions in order to understand the unit.

I found that the sound quality is not as good as the factory radio I took out, but It still sounds good. When you start the car it takes a while for the system to boot up, so don’t expect instant on. The unit is voice activated…you need to learn the wording commands that the system will except. Voice activate is great when it works but sometimes it doesn’t causing the user to get frustrated!

When istalling the unit, you must make sure you hook up the green wire to the parking break..If you don’t some features will not work….they do this for saftey reasons…its a pain in the butt because in order to put info into the system the car must be in park with the emergency break on.

Don’t forget to go to the Pioneer home page to download any updates for your system..It can be a pain if your not computer literate……I am an ole gas bag so I had to get help.. You can send away for the chip if you want to wait 3 weeks or more.
Pioneer is good about answering any questions you may have but plan on waiting a while on the phone.

The thing I do not like about this unit is…..everything is extra wich can bring the cost up quite a bit. If you choose to apply all extras to the unit it could cost up to ,200 or more…

I don’t believe its worth the money and agravation if you have to pay that much in my opinion….If you can install this unit yourself and get it for what I paid and not care about the rear camera, back seat video watching and on the column controls buy it….Make sure your phone is bluetooth capable and it is compatible with this unit before you buy.

In closing the unit is pretty nice…..just keep in mind that you must read the instructions, And if you choose to install the product yourself..speak to a friendly installer for advice…most will help you if you buy your parts from them. I rate this product from 1-10, A 6. Its a nice product

Pros: Decent navigation features. Slightly cheaper than the Kenwoods…

Cons: Traffic & some other features rely on MSN Direct, which will be shut down in Jan 2012. Voice-recognition calling & other features of the X920BT sometimes buggy.

Details:

The Pioneer AVIC units have tended to be plagued by pretty silly bugs that more thorough product testing would’ve caught before release. The AVIC X920BT is no exception.

More importantly, the Traffic & some other features on the Pioneer AVIC X920BT rely on Microsoft’s MSN Direct service, which is shutting down in Jan 2012. Pioneer apparently has no plans for a replacement traffic accessory or add-on for this unit, not to mention the many others they’ve sold that rely on MSN Direct.

Instead, they simply tell customers that their units will offer all features until Jan 2012. One would think that an FM Traffic Data System (TDS) accessory would be easy to design for this unit, but given Pioneer’s record of inadequate support — and delayed map updates — for previous AVIC units, customers should be rightly nervous about purchasing this unit, given its planned obsolescence.

There is a lot to be said about this unit. I will try to keep it short.

As suggested by other reviewers, reading the Operational Manual is a must. In my opinion, the correct price for this all-in-one unit should be 0-0 tops. I do not have nor planning on having an iPod or an iPhone and as such unable to comment on the Music Sphere application. I do not watch videos or DVD’s in the car either.

Having music stored on a micro SD is a fantastic option. The voice recognition functionality is the worst I have ever seen or used. To begin with it is very slow to react. Paint dries quicker. In addition it does not understand any of the commands, nor recognizes any of the contacts. Not even simple command such as “call home” or “call office”. It will tell you over and over again that it does not get it and it asks you to keep on trying to a point of great frustration and using the phone to dial the numbers. Firmware upgrade was successfully completed. It did nothing to improve the situation. In comparison to THB BURY CC9060 which is a fantastic unit (the best I have ever used), the PARROT system incorporated into this unit deserves an F MINUS. It simply does not work. Unit will pair with up to five different phones, but for some reason will only automatically connect to the last phone connected. Other “Registered” phones must be MANUALLY connected via the phone’s Bleutooth menu. Yet again, unlike the BURY CC (as an example) that will first search for the Default device, and then for any of the other devices paired with it for connection within seconds, the PARROT will only automatically connect with the last device connected. The BURY CC also connects to two phones at the same time, will read your SMS messages, and your BlackBerry e-mails. The PARROT interface does none of the above. The technology used by PARROT in this product is very old and somehow I don’t believe that it ever worked.

GPS is much better than was expected. It gets you there quickly and accurately. Graphics though are dated. MAP (it sais that it is the 2010 version) was not updated for very many years. Major streets and intersections that were added in New York City over the past four and five years simply do not exist on the Tele Atlas MAP. I am also missing the “Where am I” and “Auto re-route (fast off-route and detour recalculation)” functionalities. Both do not exist unless you make the additional investment in purchasing the MSN DIRECT accessory. While both the accessory and the MSN DIRECT service are fairly priced, the MSN DIRECT service will cease to exist in just about a year. Bottom line is that PIONEER failed to incorporate these two very basic but important functions as standard functions. The only solution available should you hit heavy traffic or a detour is to CANCEL the route guidance and start all over again by selecting a new route. Only one little problem though… this cannot be done while the car is moving.

I don’t know. Would expect a lot more from an 00.00 unit (RRP).

All in all it is not a bad unit. Buying a mid-range GPS + a car hands free (such as BURY CC) + replacing the stock radio would cost at least 0.00 – 0.00, so getting an “all-in-one” PIONEER unit for 0.00-0.00 is a fair deal. It is still much cheaper in comparison to the price of the car’s manufacturer in dash GPS.

Paying more for this very specific unit would be throwing money down the drain. Unit is good but far from being great considering the terrible voice recognition interface, the useless PARROT Bluetooth interface, and the very basic GPS.

To me it seems that in effort to trim costs and maximize profits, PIONEER associated two low quality products (PARROT and Tele-Atlas) with it’s high quality head unit.

As unlike other technology companies, PIONEER does not see the need in offering true Firmware or Software upgrades, this unit may never get any better. PIONEER is likely to identify and implement better solutions in future models, but in effort to sell new products they are not likely to offer the users of current units with the necessary Firmware/Software updates/upgrades. Let’s hope that PIONEER proves me wrong.

the purchase was prompt and i’d purchase from this seller again. the GPS works very good. i also purchased from someone else an external range antenna which gives me a stronger signal from a 50 mile radius.

This is a very nice unit that works well. It even tracks satellites from the car deck of British Columbia coastal ferries!
Having said that, it is a device which will have a short life. It is more than a year overdue for a map upgrade and there is still no sign, I ordered mine months ago. With widespread discussion about this on the internet, I can’t see sales being sufficient to support a second upgrade (even if the first ever makes it out).

So, nice try Pioneer, but you can’t sell a product of this type on quality alone, you have to provide continuing support.

New law requires hands-free phoning while driving and this guy rocks in that dept. Everyone I talk to says I sound very clear, like I'm not on speakerphone.

I've got an ipod in the glove-box now with a bajillion songs on it so bye-bye cd's! Will also hook it up to my iphone occasionally and stream Pandora radio. I have the MLB app. too, so I can listen to any MLB game in the country on my way home.

Never dropped a call or had any of the issues other people are talking about. Who need POI's? I just look up the address on my phone and plug it in...ding!

Now I have to get new speakers and a sub I'm afraid, cause thing this is gonna blow my factories. Sounds really good with my factory speakers, but I'm sure this thing sounds a lot better with a higher amp'd setup.

I would recommend this stereo (and already have) to others.

It's really nice having all your phone contacts and all your MP3's on a "list" on your deck.

People are really complaining about no DVD?? What, you're gonna watch a movie on a 4.5" screen while you're driving?

I've got a drop-down DVD for the back seats and elected to not hook it up to this stereo in case I have technical issues with either one.

Cost me about 5.00 for the installation...not too bad.

There's a bit of a learning curve for the operating system, but once you get it down you realize it's pretty clever.

Pioneer continues to have great sound qualityl A few things take a little getting use to but I have not found it necssary to look in the manual to figure out how to do something. No issue with dropped calls even before the software update. GPS and Ipod control all in one unit for a great price. I am very happy. Got exactly what I expected. OK GPS (as good as the Garman I had), Good radio with lots of options. I added a GEX-P920XM XM Satellite Tuner from Ebay and so far everything is working great.

The Pioneer AVIC-U310BT is a great entry level navigation, it works great if you plot out your trips and have a plan. The lack of POI’s didn’t really impact me since I planned out all the stops and found all the POI’s I wanted before I left for my trip. If used everyday it would probably be worth buying the 0 add-on card for POI’s. But if you carry a smart phone with a web connection you’d be wasting your money for POI’s. This unit is perfect for getting you across country and keeping you from getting lost. One thin I did notice is that a lot of roads that were under construction when the maps were made were completed and you have to take some detours because the maps are about 1-2 years old, so it takes a little thought when using it.
